Injured Jagielka ruled out of Montenegro game
• Hamstring problem in training sidelines Everton defender• Capello saved decision over dropping Terry or FerdinandFabio Capello has been spared the nightmare of deciding whether to axe Rio Ferdinand or John Terry for England's Euro 2012 qualifier with Montenegro on Tuesday after Phil Jagielka was ruled out with a hamstring injury sustained this morning. After two impressive central defensive performances in the victories over Bulgaria and Switzerland last month, Jagielka had been expected to retain his place next week as England look to maintain their 100% winning record. It would have left Capello needing to choose between Ferdinand and Terry to be Jagielka's partner, with the added dilemma of whether the Manchester United man should regain the captaincy from Steven Gerrard. Now the selection decision will not need to be made.Jagielka missed a training game at Arsenal's London Colney complex this morning after experiencing some tightness in his hamstring during the session beforehand. The 28-year-old then underwent a scan before being ruled out of Tuesday's game at Wembley, with Bolton's Gary Cahill called into the squad as his replacement.Meanwhile, the Manchester City midfielder Gareth Barry has joined up with the squad this evening after being given additional time at home due to personal reasons.EnglandFabio CapelloEuro 2012guardian.co.uk © Guardian News & Media Limited 2010 | Use of this content is subject to our Terms & Conditions | More Feeds guardian.co.uk |
