Milan Mandaric charged with two counts of cheating public revenue
• Former Portsmouth owner to face tax charges• Mandaric to appear in court on 11 FebruaryMilan Mandaric, the former chairman of Portsmouth and current chairman of Leicester City, was charged today with two counts of cheating the public revenue. The Crown Prosecution Service said Mandaric, who denies any wrongdoing, will appear at City of Westminster Magistrates' Court on 11 February. The CPS said the charges relate to an ongoing investigation into allegations of unpaid tax on an offshore payment of $295,000 he made to another party via a bank account in Monaco. It accused Mandaric, 71, of evading tax and national insurance contributions due on the payment between 1 April 2002 and 28 November 2007.The CPS statement said: "Following a thorough investigation by HM Revenue and Customs and the City of London Police, the CPS decided there was sufficient evidence and it was in the public interest to charge Mr Mandaric with two counts of cheating the public revenue."Mandaric was one of five men arrested by City of London Police in November 2007 in a continuing inquiry into alleged corruption in football. Former Portsmouth manager Harry Redknapp has previously described the decision to bring charges against him as part of the same investigation as "farcical".Last month, a spokeswoman for Cartwright King solicitors, who represent Mandaric, said their client was "astounded and dismayed" by the allegations."These will be vigorously defended," she said. "During a two-year investigation he has fully co-operated and has strenuously denied any wrongdoing. Throughout a successful and respected 45-year international business career, he has gained an impeccable reputation and has never been accused of the slightest wrongdoing, nor had his integrity called into question."PortsmouthLeicester CityPremier LeagueChampionshipguardian.co.uk © Guardian News & Media Limited 2010 | Use of this content is subject to our Terms & Conditions | More Feeds

Manchester United's Serbia winger Zoran Tosic joins Cologne on loan
• Tosic moves to Bundesliga club until the end of the season• Joined United from Partizan Belgrade in January 2009Manchester United have agreed a deal to loan their Serbia winger Zoran Tosic to the Bundesliga side Cologne until the end of the season.Tosic, 22, who signed for United in January 2009, has made five appearances in all competitions at Old Trafford, and had also been a target for Dutch side Twente and for Sporting Lisbon."I am glad my coming here," Tosic told the Serbian newspaper Blic. "I believe I haven't had my final say at Manchester United and that my performances with Cologne will be my ticket back to Old Trafford."Tosic's agent Zoran Pavlovic told the paper United had rejected the prospect of a permanent move."There were some offers to buy out Tosic's contract," said Pavlovic, "but Manchester United were unwilling to go for that option. Boss Ferguson is obviously counting on him in the future and so Tosic has been sent out on loan."Manchester UnitedPremier LeagueCologneBundesligaguardian.co.uk © Guardian News & Media Limited 2010 | Use of this content is subject to our Terms & Conditions | More Feeds
