Fernando Torres fit to face Everton in Merseyside derby
• Torres expected in squad after recovering from groin strain• Dirk Kuyt may recover from ankle injury in four weeks • Liverpool sale: follow live coverage with our rolling blogThe Liverpool manager, Roy Hodgson, has revealed that Fernando Torres is fit to face Everton in Sunday's Merseyside derby. The striker suffered a groin strain during the 2-1 defeat to Blackpool but is now expected to be named in the squad along with the left back Paul Konchesky."Konchesky has made a good recovery as has Fernando Torres so all being well we can welcome those two back. We get two good ones back, but lose a good one in Kuyt," said Hodgson. "Fernando's season needs to kickstart, he's been hampered a bit by injuries and what happened at the World Cup."We see a livelier and a better Fernando every day. It was really unfortunate he got that injury against Blackpool but luckily it came in the international break so he won't miss anymore league games for us."Hodgson may also welcome Fabio Aurelio following his recovery from an achilles problem but the centre back Daniel Agger remains a doubt after picking up an injury with Denmark."Aurelio has made a good recovery and could be considered at the weekend," said Hodgson. "He's been out for so long it would be unlikely I would use him, but medically speaking he is physically fit to be selected."Agger missed two weeks with the injury he picked up after Sunderland but recovered in order to go and play for Denmark where he got injured again. I don't know what the state of play is with him yet."LiverpoolGregg Roughleyguardian.co.uk © Guardian News & Media Limited 2010 | Use of this content is subject to our Terms & Conditions | More Feeds guardian.co.uk |
