Wenger calls on Arsenal to take the title
• Manager says, 'Now we have a chance so let's go' • Gunners can go top if they beat Bolton on WednesdayArsène Wenger hailed the growing impact of an Arsenal team who will lead the Premier League if Bolton are beaten by at least two goals for the second time in four days at the Emirates on Wednesday. "We are a big club and it happened last year, in October and November, that we were not fighting for the championship," the manager said. "Now we have a chance so let's go."Arsenal have not been champions since 2004 but a hard-fought match against Bolton at the Reebok Stadium yesterday, where Owen Coyle managed Bolton for the first time, was exactly the sort of occasion on which Wenger's men have floundered. This time, they won 2-0.The manager said his team have overcome self-doubt. "We are in a quite interesting position where nobody expected us to be. When the season started we were not all convinced in our squad that we could be where we are today."The key to victory was Cesc Fábregas, who returned three matches with a hamstring problem. The first goal was his 10th of the league campaign and the Spaniard believes that, at 22, he can go on having such an effect. Bolton struggled against him and seemed irked."Sometimes that is linked with gifted players," said Wenger. "They wait until the last second and when you try to take the ball they play it away. Fábregas touches the ball more than anyone else so it's not illogical that there is more contact. When you are the opposing team you try to stop him from playing. Cesc is getting stronger and stronger and there is more personality on the pitch. He will be 23 later this year so he is just starting."Fábregas is all the more critical because Wenger believes that injuries will rule out Samir Nasri and Aaron Ramsey for three more weeks. Nicklas Bendtner will be absent for 10 more days but Theo Walcott and Denílson may return on Wednesday. Coyle, who has his second match in charge that night, may find that relegation worries are slow to ease.ArsenalArsène WengerPremier LeagueKevin McCarraguardian.co.uk © Guardian News & Media Limited 2010 | Use of this content is subject to our Terms & Conditions | More Feeds
